Energy
Demagogue liberals in Congress routinely and wrongfully call for taxing oil and gas companies for supposed “windfall” profits. But oil and gas companies don’t make profits out of line with other manufacturers, and put those profits back into research and development to help bring more affordable energy to Americans.
Rises in oil price can be explained by simple supply and demand. The economies of India and China are growing at an exponential rate and require greater amounts of energy, thus creating a greater demand. Environmental regulations compound this problem of higher energy prices by making it harder to drill domestically and harder to build oil refineries.
America must make energy production a national priority. We must invest in every practical form of energy, including natural gas, nuclear, wind, and other sources. We should promote the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a transportation fuel. Kevin supports the current tax treatment of intangible drilling costs and depletion allowances, and supports greater exploration for domestic oil and gas on land and offshore. We must begin drilling in ANWR and other places currently off-limits due to shortsighted extreme environmentalist policies. We must also remove excessive environmental regulations on nuclear power and on petroleum refineries. And we must oppose Obama’s disastrous Cap and Trade tax increase, which will cost the average American family $2000-3000 per year or more and make us even more dependent on foreign terrorist oil.
Fortunately for Oklahoma, we have an abundance of natural gas and wind. Kevin will work to continue to make Oklahoma a national leader in energy production. This will not only boost our economy but help the environment, and reduce our dependence on foreign terrorist oil.
“When I was deployed to Iraq, a 107 mm Katyusha rocket destroyed a building about 25 feet from my own living quarters. That rocket was smuggled into Iraq by Iran. It was a vivid reminder of why we must not send our energy dollars to countries like Iran, and why we must instead promote domestic oil, gas, and other energy sources. Every time some extreme environmentalist tries to tell me how we should raise taxes on American oil and gas producers, I tell them my story, and they get very quiet.”
