Calvey Says Nigerian Bomber, Fort Hood, Gitmo Closing Show Obama Administration's Weaknesses on Terror

Kevin Calvey - Thursday, January 07, 2010
Oklahoma City (January 7, 2010) – Fifth District Congressional candidate Kevin Calvey (R-Oklahoma City) today called the Obama Administration “dangerously weak” with regard to America’s enemy, radical Islam. As evidence of that weakness, Calvey cited Obama’s response to the recent Nigerian bomber security lapse and the Fort Hood massacre, as well as Obama’s decision to close the Guantanamo Bay detainee facility.

“The last thing American security needs is a second coming of Jimmy Carter,” said Calvey. “President Carter invited danger to America by showing weakness in the face of enemies like the Soviet Union and radical Iran. Now President Obama is showing weakness in the face of radical terrorists who want to destroy America. Obama does not seem to realize that you cannot reason with fanatical enemies like that. You can only defeat them or be defeated by them.

“In my mission in Iraq, I prosecuted over 100 terrorists in the Iraqi court system. I have heard from their own mouths why they hate America. Even if we treated them more deferentially, mistakenly closed our bases in Arab lands, and wrongfully abandoned Israel, they would still hate us because we are free, we are successful, and we do not subscribe to their radical brand of Islam.

“For the Obama Administration to say ‘the system worked’ with regard to the Nigerian bomber; to ignore the terrorist threat from Nidal Hasan at Fort Hood; to threaten to prosecute American intelligence agents just for doing their jobs; and to close Guantanamo Bay and give its detainees the rights of US citizens in civilian courts; all of these things point to an Administration which is dangerously out of touch with the reality of the threats our country faces,” said Calvey.

Kevin Calvey is a small businessman and a conservative former State Representative from Del City. Kevin volunteered to deploy to Iraq as a Captain in the Army National Guard in 2007, and his mission in Iraq was to prosecute al Qaeda leaders and other terrorists in the Iraqi court system. Kevin was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service. Kevin and his wife, Toni, live in Oklahoma City with their baby, Anastasia.
